Tools for your first day as a stagehand
Required tools for every call
- Work gloves: Protect your hands from cuts, blisters, and wear and tear when handling heavy gear, cables, and other equipment.
- Crescent wrench: An essential tool used for various tasks, including adjusting stage lights and clamps.
- Multi-tool: A versatile tool that often includes pliers, screwdrivers, a knife, and wire cutters, useful for a variety of tasks.
- Closed-Toe Shoes (Safety Toes recommended)
Recommended but not required
- Black Clothing (Required for some calls)
- Flashlight or headlamp
- Sharpie or Pen
- Water Bottle – Water is commonly available but not guaranteed.
- Jacket: For Ice Arenas
Safety gear*
- Hard hat: With Type I, ANSI Z89.1 rating (Chin Strap) is required at some venues, including T-Mobile Center.
- Steel-toe boots: Required by some employers and a good idea for protecting your feet.
- High-visibility vest: Required upon request

Additional tips
- Bring a backpack or tool bagto keep your tools organized and easily accessible.
- Clearly label all your tools with your name.
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows for free movement but is also durable enough for heavy, dirty work.
- Layer your clothing, especially when working outdoors, to adapt to temperature changes.
- Prioritize safety by asking questions and never attempting tasks you’re unsure how to perform.
